About Watch out!

Watch out! is a series of film meetings focusing on important and current topics. During the first edition, we will watch documentaries about ecology, alternative lifestyles, creativity, culture and consequences of digital revolution. All the movies will be screened either in English or with English subtitles. After each screening, there will be a short debate about each topic.

Third movie – “Punks for West Papua”

During the third meeting, we will watch the documentary movie (by Anthony Ash Brennan) “Punks for West Papua” (46’).

West Papua is the western half of what Australians know as Papua New Guinea. Rich in resources, It is Australia’s closest neighbour, just 250kms off our northern coast. Since the Indonesian occupation in 1962, it’s estimated over 500,000 Papuans have been murdered by Indonesian military.

Benny Wenda, Nobel Peace Prize nominee and the leader of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua, said, „Indonesia has tanks and guns, we West Papuans have guitars. Music is a Weapon that will free my people”. „Punks for West Papua” is the movie about the fight for freedom, the power of music and culture.

On Friday we will also watch „Forgotten Bird of Paradise” (26’) to learn more about the situation in West Papua.
