“The Bitcoin Miner Orchestra”: workshops with César Escudero Andaluz and Martin Nadal

Autor: Culture Zone Wrocław

How much electricity does cryptocurrency require? Can you store music in a blockchain? César Escudero Andaluz and Martin Nadal – current artists-in-residence of WRORES, invited to Wrocław thanks to the cooperation of the WRO Art Center, Culture Zone Wrocław and the Austrian Cultural Forum – they examine these issues by adapting everyday objects to the production of cryptocurrencies. This time, they suggest workshop participants to transform musical instruments into Bitcoin generators.

We cordially invite you to participate in the workshops conducted by our residents – winners of the third edition of the residency program for artists from Austria, which will take place on Wednesday, November 7 from 16:30 to 19:00 at the WRO Art Center. On Thursday, November 8, at 5:00 pm, we invite everyone interested in contemporary art, digital culture, economy and the Internet of Things (IoT) to meet artists who will talk about their work and impressions from the residences at the WRO Art Center.

During the workshops, we will build instruments capable of generating Bitcoins during the performance. We will discuss the issue of electricity consumption resulting from the trade of cryptocurrencies, as well as the music industry, which invests in new ways of monetizing and storing blockchain music. In the theoretical part, we will explain the basic concepts, show examples, discuss selected works of art and books, allowing to understand the world of Bitcoin and blockchain. In the practical part, we will deal with electronic circuits, microcontrollers and small needlework that will allow us to transform into a real Bitcoin miner.

Participation in the workshop is free, does not require professional skills, but due to the hardware capabilities, 10 people can participate in it. Please send an e-mail to: zapisy@wrocenter.pl in the title by entering BITCOIN, and in the content your name, surname, age and phone number. The workshops will be conducted in English.
