Ecology of institution

Autor: Culture Zone Wrocław

The last workshop organised within the framework of the "Culture Practitioners" programme in 2018 is a sneak peak of a direction we’d like to take while programming the next year. Eco-awareness of employees of cultural institutions and non-governmental organisation is crucial for us – in the end, every one of us is responsible for shaping the awareness of the inhabitants of our cities.

The goal of the "Ecology of institution" workshop is to encourage ecology-driven planning in the implementation and production of cultural projects. Every day, a huge number of different events are produced, institutions are in full swing, new releases, concerts, exhibitions and festivals are released. The need to create something spectacular, which will be competitive with a rich cultural offer in the city, makes us less focused on the consequences of resource engagement. The point of reference should not be the scale of the project and the number of resources involved, but a carefully planned process. Ecological approach implies modesty and minimalism, an interesting idea based on available resources, and support for group activities. When planning a cultural project or programme of institutions, it is worth considering whether you need foreign stars, large-scale artistic works, new exhibition architecture, disposable cups and leaflets to implement your own idea or mission.

The meeting will be deliberative, which means that its participants will focus on the analysis of exemplary models of cultural projects in which ecological thinking is important. Sustainable practices of developing ideas, building teams, defining topics, and production methods will be discussed. Participants will be asked to submit proposals for changes related to their own creative practice.

Participant's profile: employees of institutions and non-governmental organizations, officials, creators and activists acting independently.

The result: workshop participants will be able to define the features of organic cultural production at every stage of its preparation. They will also be able to determine the scale of changes needed and indicate those that are applicable at any given time.

The workshop will take place on 13.12.2018 at Recepcja (Ruska 46a) from 16:00 to 18:30. The meeting will be conducted in Polish. Participation in the meeting is free. Applications are accepted by e-mail to the following address: praktycykultury@strefakultury.pl.

A declaration of willingness to participate in the workshop is tantamount to consent to the processing of personal data and the use of the image of the participants as part of the "Practitioners of Culture" programme.
