Soon a new edition of the Culture of Mobility programme will be launched

Visits to the United States, Mexico, Japan, as well as Portugal and Sweden - over the last two years, we have supported 31 foreign trips within the framework of the Culture of Mobility! This year, the programme returns in a refreshed formula. Upcoming editions will be addressed also to individuals who plan to participate in, among others, international art reviews and conferences. Calls will be open from 11.02 and 3.06!

Cultural travellers

The Culture of Mobility programme was launched in 2017. So far, 31 people who went on study visits or residencies abroad have benefited from the programme. Our support enabled trips beyond Europe. Two years ago Maciej Bujko went to Tokyo and Takamatsu, where he realized, among others, Witold Romer's photography exhibition "Forgotten light of the private days" in Kanzan Gallery. Karolina Wycisk went to Mexico to promote Polish artists connected with dance and choreography at the International Contemporary Dance Festival of Mexico City 2018. Thanks to her participation in the programme, Natalia Gołubowska went to New York, where she met with participants of the "Wołów - New York - Wołów" project and conducted workshops for Polish children "ARTonia".

Geographically closer destinations were also supported by the programme. Karolina Włodek, Karolina Balcer and Adam Martyniak, members of the artistic-gallery initiative "Wykwit" in Wrocław, left for Stockholm in April 2018 for the Supermarket - Stockholm Independent Art Fair. In January this year, the winners of the seventh edition of the programme went on a residency to the Aveiro Arts House in Portugal. The duo Iwona Jarosz and Jakub Majchrzak worked there on a new musical project. Another winner of the recent call, Magdalena Zamorska, will go to Berlin in February to study curatorial practices related to the ecocritical trend during an exhibition organized by Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart.

Culture of Mobility 8.0 and 9.0

In 2019 we decided to refresh the formula of the programme. It is still addressed in particular to curators, managers, activists, animators and cultural researchers from Wrocław and Lower Silesia, who plan to implement projects abroad - individually or in groups. However, in the Culture of Mobility 8.0 and 9.0 calls, applications will not have to include residencies or study visits only. We also encourage people planning a trip to foreign art reviews, festivals, conferences, concert tours, exhibitions and workshops, which will take place in 2019. The winners of the calls for proposals will receive the support of up to PLN 3,000 to cover travel and accommodation costs.

In the first half of the year we have planned two open calls:

Culture of Mobility 8.0 - from 11 February to 4 March

Culture of Mobility 9.0 - from 3 to 26 June

The Culture of Mobility is organised within the framework of the AIR Wro programme, which is a part of the Culture Zone Wrocław.

AIR Wro is a programme of residencies, study visits and international cooperation, continued after the year of the European Capital of Culture in Wrocław, as part of the Culture Zone Wrocław municipal institution. The goal of AIR Wro is to support and promote the activities of artists representing various fields of culture and art, who are interested in cooperation with representatives of local communities and circles, as well as those willing to build international cultural relations.

Detailed information about upcoming calls, regulations and required documents will be available soon.
