Next edition of the Overdue Time Off residency – Belarussian Winter!

International activities team organizes the second edition of the Overdue Time Off residency project. This time we invite five female artists from Belarus who are living in Poland. For 2 weeks, starting from November through the following autumn and winter months, they will be able to focus on their own needs in Wroclaw.

We would like to draw attention to the political situation of our eastern neighbors, but also to the key role played by women as the force of the current protests. By making the creative space available for the artists, we focus on their individual stories and experiences. The Wroclaw based residency is a time of breathing and a gesture of support for the artists from Belarus in the era of current, disturbing events.

Who have we invited to the project?

Palina Kamarova, a multimedia artist currently living in Warsaw, graduate of the Faculty of Journalism, student at the Faculty of Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw;

Zlata Lebedz, artist from Minsk currently living in Katowice, second year student of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice;

Volha Martynenka, visual artist from Minsk currently residing in Wroclaw;

Jana Shostak, Polish-Belarusian activist, inter-media artist from Grodno.

Alesia Maisei, audiovisual artist from Grodno currently residing in Katowice, student of Krzysztof Kieslowski Film School.

Overdue Time Off

The residency project Overdue Time Off / Zaległy urlop was premiered in August this year, when Pablo Ramírez González explored the topic of work and rest in a series of Jungleporn photographs showing the critical point of view of the Mexican island of Tulum. The project, carried out by the Cultural Zone Wrocław, payed attention to the health, condition and well-being of foreign artists living or temporarily staying in Poland.

The originators of the project are the Culture Zone Wrocław’s International Activities team and the artist of Ukrainian origin living in Wroclaw – Yuriy Biley. The residency project “Overdue Time Off / Zaległy urlop” is a part of the AIR Wro residency programme, study visits and international cooperation of the Culture Zone Wrocław.
