City and Culture: Practising work – a profession called culture

Autor: Culture Zone Wrocław

Once again, Wrocław will become the destination for the cultural professionals from Poland. This time, between 18. and 19. Of October, we’ll discuss the issue of compromise in the cultural environment as a part of the "City and Culture" Conference.

It is precisely for ourselves that the compromise is the most difficult. Quite often we are talking about issues that are common in our environment: way too many projects implemented at the same time, human resources underinvested in terms of both quantities and competences, or the burnout of cultural personnel, which is the result of too much work. So what can we do to put real boundaries between our professional and private lives?

Does a job that you’re passionate about really never make you tired? Do we work less when working with friends? What is your working and leisure culture? How to separate working time from other areas of life and is it worth doing? How does personal commitment affect the existing tension between pursuing goals and developing relationships? How do habits help to better organise inherently unpredictable work and to efficiently handle a large number of non-standard tasks, typical of working in the cultural sector?

We invite you to jointly look for answers to the questions mentioned above and update your definition of work and rest. To study your strategies and habits related to defining and experiencing both work and leisure. The workshop “Practising work – a profession called culture” will be lead by Paulina Czapska and Anna Szapert from the “FUTURE SIMPLE” Collective.
