It was a very special year. For the first time in many years we have not published the (April) issue of “The Guide”, while the March issue became outdated in the middle of the month, out of a sudden. For the first time, some issues were only available in a digital format – including this edition. What is more, for the first time in years, we delivered the November issue of “The Guide” to your homes to comply with the pandemic restrictions. We would like to take advantage of this opportunity to express our gratitude towards those, who – despite perturbations and frequent publishing changes – waited and still continue to wait for their “Cultural Guide” at the start of each month and read it with pleasure. We believe we do not have to point out that we make this magazine for you.
It was a very special year. The cultural sector – like all other sectors of the economy – is now in peril; however, one would be hard-pressed to accuse the creative industry of a lack of creativity, so complaining about boredom was out of the question. Need evidence? Every month, we had ideas for a dozen articles, as well as about a hundred events to be listed in our calendar. This is also true for this issue – we have interviews, guides, summaries, book excerpts, cultural recommendations and riddles, all featured on the following pages of the magazine.
It was a very special year. We do not believe anybody expected that “hybrid” and “online” would become the most popular word in the cultural world. Cancelling and postponing events became commonplace, and nobody was happy about it – but it would be hard to argue with the value of health and safety. Fortunately, 2020 is almost over now – here is to hoping that 2021 will bring much health. And a lot of common sense.
