Don’t let Andy Warhol’s ice skater on the cover fool you – we’ve all had enough of winter already, because we all miss drinking cappuccino in a café garden, moments of relaxation with a book on a park bench and outdoor cultural events, I think. If you are looking for a book you could read outside, why not go for the books presented in our guide to literature… Or maybe you will enjoy one of the “forbidden readings” – books that have been removed from the school core curriculum, and a new series of events during which actors will read fragments of said books.
Speaking of events, April in Wrocław is irrevocably connected with the Jazz on the Odra Festival. We talked with Leszek Możdżer, the artistic director, about this year’s programme, and Krzysztof Maj is going to tell us more about the International Day of Polish Jazz crowning the festival in his column. Music lovers will also appreciate an interview with one of the initiators of Sofar Sounds, celebrating the 2nd anniversary of the initiative’s activity in Wrocław.
Did Warhol and Dalí like jazz? It might be true for the former, judging by a series of album covers designed for jazz legends and other artists – including the legendary cover for Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones. You can see that for yourself at an exhibition opened at the Theatre Museum at the end of March, which, in addition to presenting the works of Dalí and Warhol, is a story about the artists themselves. In this issue, we also recommend a visit to the Ossolineum, which now holds works from the pre-war Lubomirski Museum (the former Lviv branch of the Ossoliński National Institute).
