Culture Practitioners

We’re sharing culture! Soon our activities will become a part of the programmes of two institutions - the newly established Wrocław Institute of Culture and the refreshed formula of the Culture Zone Wrocław.

From February 1st the activities of Culture Practicioners will be a part of the Wrocław Institute of Culture programme, which will deal with the development of social, animation, research and competence projects of local, national and international range.

The Culture Practitioners is a competence and training programme, which has been running since the beginning of 2018 as part of the Culture Zone Wrocław institution. Programme was designed to impact the non-governmental sector, cultural institutions and people working independently in the field of culture in Wrocław and Lower Silesia region. Our activities are addressed to all those who want to acquire new skills and share their knowledge with others, are interested in the latest trends in culture management, and above all, want to develop their skills. Within the framework of the programme, we organize workshops, creative meetings, research and educational activities lead by chosen experts, as well as a series of study visits for professionals and the "City and Culture" conference. As a result of the pandemic situation we found ourselves in this year, we have also started to work on the Internet, where you can listen to a series of podcasts "Rozmowy o…" – these podcasts are available in Polish only. Throughout the year, we want to jointly develop our skills in responding to the needs of our audiences, co-creating spaces dedicated to culture and developing cooperation networks between cultural operators at local, regional and national levels

CHANGE

Each year, the programme is accompanied by a selected theme, which is the starting point for our further activities. In 2020, this motto is CHANGE, and it gives us a chance to address four main themes – in our view important for the cultural sector:

  • climate change and its impact on our sector,
  • participatory projects in culture,
  • strategies related to making culture available for audiences and disseminating them to different audiences,
  • the impact of ever-increasing technology on the way we realize and organize our culture.

Over the last few years, the cultural sector in Poland has started to notice the need to change the way in which the cultural programmes for our aufdiences are planned and implemented, striving to constantly improve the quality of activities and to use unconventional educational and artistic solutions. One by one institutions and non-governmental organisations have set as their goal to support the development of their employees' competences, and the development of skills and knowledge in our sector is becoming an increasingly important topic of seminars and conferences. The trend related to building the sector's capacity is increasingly evident in the discussion on the condition of Polish culture. Building this is also related to the processes of consolidation and practical use of knowledge acquired in training projects, building new partnerships and developing networks of contacts, as well as working out common development strategies for culture and education in Poland.

FIXED PROGRAM MODULES

Research competition – in January we are launching the open call for the second edition of the competition addressed to interdisciplinary research groups from Wrocław and Lower Silesia. Its aim is to learn, analyze and diagnose the state of the cultural sector in Wrocław and thus generate a set of new knowledge about the sector. The research project will result in a summary report.

Rozmowy o… (Conversations about…) – this is our new series of podcasts, during which we talk about various aspects of culture with educators, activists and activists from all over Poland. In this difficult time for everyone, we don't want to forget about issues which, just like before the pandemic, are very important for the future of the cultural sector. In the episodes made available every week, we will first talk about ecology, then we will look at the subject of accessibility and equality, as well as the role of technology in culture. These podcasts are available in Polish language only.

Workshops in Wrocław and Lower Silesia – a year-long training activity addressed to representatives of the cultural sector from Wrocław and Lower Silesia. In connection with the pandemic, we have moved the workshops planned by us to 2021.

"City and Culture" conference – another autumn meeting of cultural theoreticians and practitioners who want to learn new ways of creating a cultural offer, are looking for tools to collect knowledge about their work environment, and plan to refer to the most current phenomena and trends around us in their projects will be organised this year. Organized since 2017, the conference is a space for observation of the cultural sector – its condition, resources and opportunities for networking, a platform for reflection on forms of participation in culture, and above all, an event that in Wroclaw is to focus people active in the field of production, research and organization of culture in Poland.
