She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of Wrocław (dissertation titled “Photography and Cinema – the Meeting of the Media). Her principal research interests lie in the field of visual culture and cultural involvement of media. Her current interests and curatorial practices are focused on archives and coexistence of different media in artistic projects. Recently she has also developed a strong fascination with semantic potential of food and plants functioning as a medium in art.

Ciastoń’s study visit in Israel will be part of ongoing research and will serve to deepen her knowledge about contemporary art in this country. The curator’s main interest consist in the landscape, nature and desert as important motives in Israeli art, which she hopes to include in the upcoming exhibition that she has recently started preparing. During her stay in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Ciastoń plans to hold meetings with representatives of cultural institutions, such as Ticho House or the Israeli Museum. It will also be an excellent opportunity to visit local artists’ studios and develop already existing network of contacts.
