Andrzej Rafałowicz [Culture of Mobility 6.0]

Year of birth: 1981 Field: Sztuki wizualne City: Lizbona

The aim of the residence within the framework of the "Zaratan - Arte Contemporânea" programme is to implement activities and develop works related to the city of Lisbon, as well as processes that influence its aesthetics. These include, in particular, processes not directly linked to urban planning and architecture, such as erosion and the uncontrolled spreading of vegetation, but also economic and other processes linked to the activities of the local community, relating to the sense of belonging or the need for individual expression. Rafałowicz's works will not take on a strictly documentary or descriptive character; rather, they will be artistic impressions, formally based on various media (painting, photography, video, etc.).

The plan of activities will be based on the research of urban space with regard to a selected issue, and its effects will take the form of photographic, audio or video documentation, and perhaps they will also lead to intervention in public space. The "Zaratan - Arte Contemporânea" residential programme involves regular meetings with participating artists aimed at discussing current aspects of the creative process, as well as the possibilities of promoting the residence, for example in the form of an "open studio" or an exhibition (depending on further curatorial decisions). "Zaratan - Arte Contemporânea", being at the same time a cultural centre run by a collective of artists active in various fields of art, will provide him with an opportunity to explore the local art scene of Lisbon, and possibly develop further projects based on collaboration with local artists or institutions.

Andrzej Rafałowicz - a graduate of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, since 2018 also an assistant there. The main discipline of his artistic practice is painting, although in his work he also reaches for other media such as graphics or video.
