Jana Shostak was born in 1993 in Grodno, Belarus. She currently lives and works in Warsaw. She completed BA studies at the Faculty of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and MA studies at the Faculty of Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the studio of prof. Mirosław Bałka. In her artistic practice, she focuses on activating / hacking communities outside the art world.

She is a finalist of the Young Art Biennale Rybie Oko, winner of the Grand Prix of the Young Wolves '16 competition and 1st place at the In Out Festival. The Belarusian artist has participated in many exhibitions, incl. in Manifesta 11 in Zurich; WRO 2017 Biennale: Draft Systems in Wrocław; The Wall, Trafostacja Sztuki in Szczecin; Communis. Renegotiations of the community in Galeria Labirynt in Lublin; There, the seat of the bank PKO B.P. in Warsaw, as well as Not-Aufnahme, 48 Stunden Neukölln in Berlin.

Jana Shostak is the penultimate participant of Belarusian origin who lives in Poland and was invited to the project Overdue Time Off: Belarussian Winter. The two-week residence in Wrocław is a time to breathe and a gesture of support for Belarusian artists in the time of current, disturbing events.
