Joanna Opalska-Brzecka, visual artist, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, Poland, majoring in Art and Design of Ceramics. Currently she works at her alma mater in the II Studio of Artistic Ceramics. In 2020 she received a doctoral degree in art. In her work based on ceramic workshop she undertakes problems that bother her. Artist comments on reality and tells personal stories. She treats ceramics as a unique technique that allows combining tradition with contemporary forms of expression and narration. Her work has been presented at many exhibitions including the Porcelain Museum in Riga, Superstudio PIU PIU in Milan and the National Museum in Wroclaw.

 

As part of the Culture of Mobility programme, a Wrocław-based artist will travel to the international ceramics symposium Ceramic Laboratory 2021, organised by the International Ceramics Biennale in Daugavpils, Mark Rothko Art Center, Latvia. It is one of the most important contemporary ceramics symposia organised in Europe and the most renowned event of its kind in the Baltic Sea region. As a visual artist and ceramicist, she have been invited to be one of the participants of this year's edition. The event will take place from 9 to 23 July 2021 in Daugavpils, Latvia. The aim of the symposium is to exchange experiences on contemporary ceramics while actively working in this material. In addition, the organisers provide the organisation of two exhibitions, the acceptance of three objects into the collection of the Mark Rothko Art Center and presentations by participants during scheduled lectures.
