Wykwit [Culture of Mobility 4.0]

Supermarket – Stockholm Independent Art Fair 2018

Field: Visual arts City: Stockholm

Karolina Włodek, Karolina Balcer and Adam Martyniak are the members of Wykwit, a Wrocław-based artistic initiative and gallery, which has been invited to participate in the non-commercial contemporary art fair Supermarket in Stockholm in April this year. The fair presents unique ideas, galleries, project spaces, artist collectives and other initiatives run by artists from all over the world. Due to the extensive events programme, Supermarket is not just a regular fair. Equally important is the creation of space for building an international network of collaboration and exchange between self-organising artists and their initiatives. The theme of this year’s fair is “heritage”. The presentation by Wykwit will therefore refer to the old German house in which the members of the group live and work, and to the relations and emotions that they create in its space.

Karolina Balcer – Graduate of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. Currently a doctoral student at the same university. Her graduation thesis ‘Technical Block’ was recognized as the diploma of the year at the Department of Painting and won awards such as the Audience Award at the 4th Young Art Exhibition „Fresh Blood” (2014), the Award of the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and the Format art magazine award during the 24th Promocje art review in Legnica (2014). Winner of the Fresh Zone contest at the ArtBoom festival in Krakow (2015). She participated in the Media Art Biennale WRO (2015), Bielska Autumn (2015), the 14th edition of the Survival Art Review (2016), and in Artloop Festival in Sopot (2016). She deals with painting, video and installations in public spaces. Her activities present high sensitivity to architecture as a tool for organising social life. Since 2015, she has been co-running the Wykwit gallery. Since 2017 a member of the board of directors at Wykwitex.

Karolina Włodek – Graduate of Mediation of Art at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław and Painting at the Fine Arts College in Kazimierz Dolny. Co-founder of Wykwit, in which she runs the Layers group. In her work, she often participates in collectives. Karolina is interested in everyday life and likes it when private life mixes with art; at work she often engages in activities related to local communities.

Adam Martyniak – Author of swampy paintings and conceptual, often humorous, objects and site specific installation. Between 2013 and 2015 the supervisor of MD_S Gallery in Wrocław.
