Born in Hyogo, Nomura graduated from Visual Arts College Osaka and studied photography in Los Angeles. Her photo book Deep South (1999) captures her roots of Okinawa and attracted much attention for its unique colours and rich emotionality. Since then, women and water have been the motifs in her overarching theme of ‘life’. Her work explores life’s infinite cycle beyond time and space and her pieces have been published in four photo books and shown in over 40 exhibitions. Nomura received the Newcomer’s Award from the Photographic Society of Japan in 1999 and New Photographer Prize at the 16th Higashikawa International Photography Festival in 2000,Tadahiko Hayashi Prize in 2019. Nomura currently lives and works in Tokyo.
The artist is a participant of Polish-Japanese exchange for photographers organized by BWA Wrocław Contemporary Art Gallery with the support of EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee.
At the turn of September and October 2021, during a 6-week stay in Wrocław, the artist will carry out photographic projects in accordance with her interests and the chosen subject matter. Culture Zone Wrocław's programme AIR Wro is a partner of the residency.
