Year of birth: 1940 Field: Experimental music City: Sokołowsko

A classic of improvised electroacoustic music (EAI), a tabletop guitarist and a co-founder of the famous esemble AMM. In Lower Silesia, the musiacian participated in – organised jointly with the In Situ Contemporary Art Foundation – residency at the Sokołowsko Laboratory of Culture. In collaboration with Wrocław-based artist, Gerard Lebik, Rowe was researching the relationship between the sound and image, which is one of his main interests since the late 60’s. For several decades, the artist has repeatedly experimented with rendering visual phenomena to sound. His fascination with Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, on the other hand, resulted in his legendary releases and numerous performances. At first, Rowe and Lebik recorded their improvised sessions, and chose a few minutes long sample, creating a musical notation which could be a starting point for the further work in 2016. Various visual artists were invited to create visual scores of this pieces – these scores would enable the possibility of playing the piece using different intrumental arrangements and configurations.
