At the beginning of June, Maria Łuc will take part in the artistic residency programme run by the AADK Spain platform (Aktelle Achitektur Der Kultur). The activities of the platform are concentrated in the Centro Negra artistic centre located in the town of Blanka in the south-east of Spain (Murcia region). The young artist intends to use the materials and observations collected during her stay here. With the help of spontaneous photographs, films, notes and drawings, she wants to create a multimedia installation, which she will present during the cyclical exhibition "Open Studios".
Being in close relation with natural environment, with the help of numerous materials collected during her walks around Blanka (photographs, films, as well as fragments of broken ceramics or organic objects - leaves, flowers and fruits), she creates a bipolar interdisciplinary project "BLUE can be also RED". It's second part, "orange-red", documents the real activity of collecting local fruit. The monotony and repetitiveness of this activity reveals to Maria the physical aspects of our existence and the beauty of its cyclicality, especially in relation to the female cycle.
Maria Łuc graduated Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław as a graphic artist. Previously, she also studied at École supérieure d'Art et Design in Orleans, France, and at the National Academy of Art in Lviv. Her defended diploma in the Book Studio and in the Digital Printing and Experimental Techniques Studio was presented at the exhibition of the best diplomas at the BWA Wrocław Main Railway Gallery in October last year. Maria's artistic profile oscillates between different fields. Her formal interests initiated by easel painting and analogue photography are constantly expanded by experiments with collage, animation and film. With the help of these media, she creates unconventional project realizations that address contemporary issues related to ecology, culture and social sciences.
