Nina Holzweg

The City of Wrocław in cooperation with the Sister City of Dresden has been organizing a residency exchange for artists specializing in workshop graphics for the fourth year in a row. In April this year, Nina Holzweg, a graduate of The Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, a painter and graphic artist, who deals mainly with devastated urban spaces, will come to Wrocław.

The artist perceives the city as a scene of rapid changes, full of contrasts, struggles between temporary, makeshift constructions and new forms. She is inspired by the multicultural mixture of the old town, tenement houses crossed by socialist prefabricated blocks of flats. She is attracted by the new and old architecture, which stands in contradiction with each other and by the ambivalence between beauty and decay.

Apart from painting and photography, the main form of her artistic activities remains workshop graphics. It is both silkscreen printing and etching, and more recently also photographic lithography. She uses lithography as a medium for graphical representation of the structure of various surfaces. Holzweg wants to explore these techniques during her stay in Wrocław.
