Rafał Łuc

Culture of Mobility 8.0

Year of birth: 1987 Field: Music City: Blagnac

In the first days of July this year, at the Eole studio in Blagnac, France, Rafał Łuc worked on the recording of Pierre Jodlowski's “Something out of Apocalypse”. This piece will be included on Jodlowski's next monographic album, which at the same time will be a significant step in Łuc’s artistic and professional development as an accordionist. Working on this album is also another international project with his participation. It is also important because in France Łuc has not yet had the opportunity to record or give concerts. This recording in such a prestigious label as Eole will also enable him to continue working in France and to establish contacts with other French artists and composers.

Rafał Łuc is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, Musikene Centro Superior de Musica del Pais Vasco in San Sebastian and Karol Lipiński Academy of Music, where he currently works as an assistant. In September 2018, he received his doctorate in music arts. During his studies in Great Britain he performed in the most important concert halls, including St. Martin in the Fields, Barbican Centre, Royal Albert Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Colston Hall, and several times at Wigmore Hall – as a finalist of Young Concert Artists Trust and Patron's Award competitions. He has also made his debut in the United States, where he gave concerts, including Carnegie Hall. Łuc regularly participates in the most important festivals of contemporary music, such as Warszawska Jesień, Musica Polonica Nova, Musica Electronica Nova, Poznańska Wiosna, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Ostrava New Music Days.

Rafał Łuc forms Duo van Vliet with the Scottish musician Ian Anderson. He is also a co-founder and member of the Kompopolex ensemble. He collaborates with such ensembles as BBC SO, Royal Opera House, Aurora Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, London Sinfonietta, Nash Ensemble, Chroma, Rambert Dance Company, Riot Ensemble, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic and Wrocław Opera. In June 2015, DUX released his debut album “acc++ca” with works for accordion and electronics. Two years later, in June 2017, Orchid Classics released the Duo van Vliet album “Lachrymae ReVisited”, nominated by New Music Scotland for the EMV Award for New Music Recording of the Year.
