Theresa Wenzel

Sister cities Wrocław and Dresden launched a residency exchange for artists active in the field of a workshop graphics two years ago. In 2018 Theresa Wenzel, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, a painter and graphic artist, came to Wrocław.

Wenzel is interested in the relationships between people as a group. Observation of the relationship and behaviour became the basis for her work as an artist, although she herself emphasizes that she likes to watch random people, choosing them without any assumption or bias. Recently, she has also been investigating the dynamics of generational changes - this was highlighted by the artist observing her own family and the changes that affect it over time. After years of painting, Wenzel has rediscovered the linocut technique, often using archival materials - photos from newspapers or those she considers as souvenirs.

In Wrocław, the artist will focus on the Odra river, with which we primarily associate our city. Wenzel brought up on the Dresden Elbe, always wanted to take up the subject of the river in her work - the residency in Wroclaw is, therefore, an ideal moment to initiate such process. Wenzel will start with a series of graphics portraying life around the Odra river with a continuation planned to be implemented back in Dresden.
