AIR Wro Talks 3.0: 15th-16th of March 2018, Wrocław

As we are moving forward and evolving all the time, we would like to extend the formula of AIR Wro Talks, and focus on the international cooperation. Networks of cooperation between GLAM and other cultural institutions, institutes, organisations and grassroots initiatives will be then the main focus during the third edition of the meeting, e.g. International Cities of Refuge Network ICORN. We want to share our experiences, discuss future collaborations and projects, and take a closer look at various forms of working together on the international level. Current situation of the European community as well as rapid changes occurring globally affect us all, we should focus then on developing and broadening our relations, and these between our cities, regions and countries, e.g. between Wrocław and Berlin, two major culture hubs in EU. The context of the European Capital of Culture is also very important to us, as Wrocław became one, and celebrated last year, and that is why we would like to discuss the Balkans as the new direction on the cultural map of Europe.

The third edition of AIR Wro Talks will gather experts and representatives of the following organisations: and institutions: A Soul for Europe, Berlinerpool Arts Network, Blitz, the City Culture Institute, DutchCulture, ECoC Banja Luka 2024, ECoC Novi Sad 2021, ECoC Plovdiv 2019, ECoC Valletta 2018, European Cultural Foundation, European Media Art Platform & European Media Artists in Residence Exchange, Etxepare Basque Institute, Gdańsk City Gallery, Geh8 Art Space and Studios, IETM – International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts and East European Performing Arts Platform, International Centre of Graphis Arts in Lublana,  the International Cities of Refuge Network ICORN, K.A.I.R., la malterie, LOCOP, Mica Moca, Motel Spatie, Museum of the History of Polish Jews POLIN, Muzeum Śląskie in Katowice, On the Move, Polish Institute in Berlin, Polish Institute in Vienna, Res Artis and Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Rozkurz, Stiftung Zukunft Berlin, Bałkanistyka Association, Tadeusz Kantor Foundation, Trans Europe Halles, Wrocław Literature House, Villa Decius Association.

AIR Wro Talks 2.0: 29th of November-1st of December 2016, Wrocław, Sokołowsko

What artistic residencies really are and how to define them? Where are the reference points, that determine whether something qualifies as artistic residency or not? What are the benefits of this type of activity for the artists and art and culture sector, and what are the difficulties faced by people involved in residencies? How to find funds for projects, which initial goals and results can transform on the very first day of the residency, and their inclusiveness is often created just to gain higher scores when the applications for funding are being assessed? Are the projects focused on the artists and their development of less value than the ones directed to local communities? And finally, what should define and characterize an institution or organization running a residential programme – regardless whether it’s a residency for artists, curators, animators, cultural managers or collectives, or an artistic activity, cultural animation, research or socially engaged project. We will try to answer these, and other questions, together with a group of practitioners and experts participating in AIR Wro Talks – a series of discussions, workshops and meetings organized within the framework of AIR Wro.
