“It’s a strange thing, all these rivers and roads,” Sniff thought to himself. “You see them go far beyond, and suddenly you feel this urge to go somewhere, to find yourself somewhere else, to run along and see where they end…” We are all locked inside now, longing for forests and parks, like animals. Personally, I find solace in Comet in Moominland by Tove Jansson. COVID-19 is like a comet passing above our valley.

What I miss the most during that time is the theatre; however, TR Warszawa found an interesting formula. On 12th of May, you can watch the second instalment of R.I.P KORE, an on-line prequel to Katarzyna Minkowska’s Stream, inspired by Greek mythology. While in Warsaw, I managed to fall in love with Michał Borczuch’s Kino moralnego niepokoju this season. I hope the pandemic goes away soon and we’ll be able to see his new play in the Polski Theatre in the underground.

I also keep listening to Maverick Sabre’s album When I Wake Up, on repeat.

W czasach szaleństwa by Magdalena Grochowska is a book-length essay about the lives and works of people, who stood against totalitarian regimes throughout the 20th century. The author goes beyond the era she describes and warns us about fringe and extreme ideologies, which threaten our current reality. The fates and attitudes of the four presented people are so extraordinary that I couldn’t put the book down and finished the difficult six hundred pager in just two days.

In recent times, I’ve been listening a lot to the sound of Jozef van Wissem’s lute and Jim Jarmusch’s guitars. Van Wissem composed the music for Jarmusch’s film Only Lovers Left Alive. To date, the two artists released four albums, which I can listen to endlessly, particularly the Concerning the Entrance Into Eternity. This subtle, minimalist music created by perfectly complementary artists has a soothing effect on my mind.

Additionally Ága – one of the most extraordinary films of recent years – is now available on DVD and in VOD services. It’s a beautiful, simple and tender ode to a dying world.
