Agata Grzych i Bartosz Czapla

Culture of Mobility 9.0

Year of birth: 1985, 1995 Field: Photography, movie City: Kurba

Kurba is a small village in Russia, located near Jaroslaw. It is a place that for various reasons, especially economic, the young generation does not consider attractive and therefore often leaves in favour of larger cities. Through joint activities Agata Grzych and Bartosz Czapla want to arouse interest in researching local history and developing cultural and educational tourism in Kurba.

Their tool will be a pinhole camera. As a simple device, made from a shoebox, it can become an attraction that will encourage the villagers to work together. The artists will conduct workshops on constructing cameras and taking photographs with them. They will also use this technique to portrait the local community, Kurba's architecture and the surrounding landscape. At the end of the residency there is an exhibition planned, which later will be shown in Wrocław as well. Apart from the camera obscura, Grzych and Czapla will also work on the film. They want to document both their work and the life of the inhabitants of Kurba.
