In the second half of August this year Lena Czerniawska will start her tour in Australia. She will be accompanied by musicians: Josten Myburgh, Michael McNab and Emilio Gordoa. During their performances in six cities (Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra, Sydney), the ensemble will present drawing and sound improvisations. The aim of this cooperation is the joint development of artistic expression on the notion of time, space and sound.
Australia is a place where the improvisation scene is developing rapidly. Confronting the activities in this area characteristic for Europe with those characteristic for Australia is the leitmotif of this journey. It is especially important for Czerniawska herself, who, as a performer, illustrator and art theoretician, is interested in phenomena such as echtzeitmusik, improvised music or real time composition (various terms function).
Lena Czerniawska studied by Eugeniusz Get-Stankiewicz, Eugeniusz Smoliński and Michał Jędrzejewski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, where she then worked as an assistant in the Creative Drawing studio. In 2017 Czerniawska began her individual career as an illustrator. Currently, her work focuses on drawing, drawing improvisation with experimental music and design graphics. Czerniawska runs the Macondo Foundation in Nadodrze, in Wrocław, where she also works as a curator and culture animator.
