Overdue Time Off: Belarussian Winter

At the beginning of December Volha Martynenka will take part in the Culture Zone Wrocław's residential project Overdue Time Off: Belarussian Winter. The visual artist comes from Minsk and currently resides in Wrocław. She studied three subjects: journalism and photography, and completed her education in Media Art at the Bauhaus University in Weimar - her master's thesis was related to documentation of performance art.

The artist took part in numerous interdisciplinary exhibitions and film festivals in Berlin, London and Amsterdam. In Minsk, where she taught video art at the independent liberal university ECLAB, she presented her work at the DACH and Touch festivals. She mainly deals with street photography and documentation of local art and political events. In 2018-2019, she participated in the Lane Kirkland Scholarship programme at the University of Wrocław. The exhibition "Berlin/Minsk/Wrocław - Movements" with photos from 2013-2019 was presented in Firlej in Wrocław last December. He currently works for Edgeryders as a copywriter.

Volha Martynenka is the third of five female artists from Belarus and living in Poland invited to the Overdue Time Off: Belarussian Winter project. The two-week residency in Wrocław is a time of breathing and a gesture of support for the female artists from Belarus in the era of current, disturbing events.
