The idea of the competition appeared in 2015. Since then five editions were carried out, resulting in the implementation of nine projects. “Duets” project, carried out together with the Homeless Theatre Foundation in 2015, was organised in Świdnica. Year later, in 2016, we had the opportunity of working both in Lower Silesia and Wrocław. Residencies organised outside of our city included a cooperation with Tymoteusz Karpowicz Foundation for Culture and Education (“The Roads to Home” was a two-month-long residency of Karolina Błażejczak), the Parish of the Evalengical Church of the Augsburg Confession (“BACH!” was a three-week-long residency of Robert Bachara), Teatr Cinema Theatre Association (“Understanding the World. Process/Everyday Life” was a residency of Maksim Isaev and Pavel Semchenko form Akhe Theatre) and h/2 Foundation (“DADA-baba. Following the kid” was a residency of Aleksandra Bełz-Rajtak and her two sons). In Wrocław we developed the residency of Irene Ros, who participated in the first edition of the “Womenstate” project created by the Jubilo Foundation. Wersja Foundation, on the other hand, created a platform of cooperation with the informal group Warstwy – their project resulted in the residency of Nina Adelajda Olczak. The foundation continued their active cooperation with us thanks to the “Liquid City” project and the residency of Judith Röder (organised in 2018 in cooperation with the BWA Wrocław Galleries of Contemporary Art). Aerial Residency 2018 was a project organised in the Lower Silesia in cooperation with Filtrator Association, who were the hosts of Barbara Stelmachowska in Sokołowsko.
We want to encourage non-governmental organisations and social cooperatives from Lower Silesia and Wrocław to submit projects based on the formula of residency or a study visit. What kind of initiatives are our main focus? Art, education, research, cultural animation, engaging communities, sustainable development, activism – all of these fields can be a starting point for developing projects related to the urban culture and its various kinds.
